KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 — Two foreign nationals have become the first individuals in Malaysia to be charged in court for littering under the newly enforced anti-littering law, according to a report by The Star.
TIBÚ (COLOMBIA) – 20 JAN - A surge of guerrilla violence in Colombia has claimed over 80 lives, including civilians, and displaced thousands within four days, according to officials on Sunday. The conflict erupted in the Catatumbo region, a hub for cocaine production, where the National Liberation Army (ELN) launched attacks against a rival group made up of ex-members of the disbanded FARC. Civilians, caught in the crossfire, fled on motorcycles, boats, and trucks to seek refuge in nearby towns or across the Venezuelan border.
The violence has left approximately 5,000 people displaced, with several injured, creating a dire humanitarian crisis. Shelters have been set up in towns like Tibu, while schools have been converted into temporary refuges. Colombian President Gustavo Petro has criticized the ELN for committing war crimes and called off peace negotiations. The ongoing conflict underscores the persistent instability in Colombia, despite the 2016 peace deal with FARC, as armed groups and drug cartels continue to battle over resources and trafficking routes.
