MODENA (Italy), Feb 5 — Ferrari has named Zhou Guanyu as a Formula One reserve driver after the 25-year-old Chinese racer lost his seat at Swiss-based Sauber. Previously part of the Ferrari Academy, Zhou will share reserve duties with Italian Antonio Giovinazzi, who is also driving in the World Endurance Championship for Ferrari.

Zhou, the first F1 driver from China, spent three seasons with Sauber, contesting 68 grands prix and earning 16 points, along with two fastest laps. His new role opened up when Oliver Bearman, who filled in at three races last year, moved to Haas.

Zhou is also connected to the Cadillac team, backed by General Motors and aiming to join Formula One in 2026. Graeme Lowdon, involved in Zhou’s management, leads that project, which will initially use Ferrari engines and gearboxes until General Motors develops its own. — Reuters
