WASHINGTON, July 1 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House next week for talks with President Donald Trump, as the U.S. intensifies efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, a U.S. official confirmed on Monday.
LONDON, Feb 3 — Aston Villa has signed Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United for the remainder of the season, ending his prolonged absence from Ruben Amorim’s squad at Old Trafford.
Once a key figure for United fans, Rashford has not played for his boyhood club since December 12. Earlier this season, he admitted he was ready for a "new challenge."
The 27-year-old was linked to AC Milan and Barcelona, but his reported £300,000-a-week (RM1.7 million) wages deterred both clubs. According to Sky Sports, Villa will cover at least 75% of his salary, potentially rising to 90% based on performance bonuses. They also have the option to make the deal permanent for £40 million at the end of the season.
“I had offers from other clubs, but choosing Aston Villa was easy. I admire the way they’ve been playing and the manager’s ambitions,” Rashford said in a club statement.
Villa, currently eighth in the Premier League, strengthened their attack after selling Jhon Duran to Saudi club Al Nassr for £64 million. With aspirations for Champions League qualification, Unai Emery’s side sees Rashford as a valuable addition.
Rashford, who has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for United, has won the Europa League, two FA Cups, and two League Cups. However, questions about his attitude and work ethic under Amorim led to his exclusion from the squad.
Last week, Amorim criticized Rashford’s commitment, even suggesting he would rather include 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital in the squad.
A move to Villa offers Rashford a fresh start. After scoring a career-best 30 goals in the 2022/23 season, he managed only eight last season and has netted seven times in 24 appearances this campaign. — AFP
