MADRID, Sept 4 — Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde is a doubt for the club’s Champions League opener against Newcastle after picking up a hamstring injury in training yesterday.

The left-back is expected to be out for three to four weeks, according to Spanish reports.

“Balde sustained a minor injury to his left hamstring during today’s training session. His availability will depend on how his recovery progresses,” Barcelona said in a statement.

The 20-year-old is set to miss Barcelona’s La Liga clash against Valencia on September 14 and could also be sidelined for the trip to St James’ Park on September 18. — AFP
