KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 — Two foreign nationals have become the first individuals in Malaysia to be charged in court for littering under the newly enforced anti-littering law, according to a report by The Star.
LONDON, March 18 — Paris Saint-Germain ended any hopes of a Chelsea comeback as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia helped lead a commanding 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, sending the French side through to the Champions League quarter-finals with an 8-2 aggregate win.
Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring early, followed by a brilliant strike from Bradley Barcola, quickly extinguishing Chelsea’s chances of overturning their 5-2 first-leg deficit. Substitute Senny Mayulu added a third in the second half, as Luis Enrique’s PSG now await the winner of the Liverpool-Galatasaray tie next month.
The Qatar-backed side’s win keeps their hopes of retaining the Champions League alive, a year after claiming the trophy for the first time. It also served as revenge for last July’s Club World Cup final loss to Chelsea and suggested that PSG may be hitting peak form at a crucial stage of the season.
“It’s amazing. Scoring three goals away against Chelsea is huge, and the important thing is we keep playing well. We have to maintain this level,” Kvaratskhelia told Canal Plus.
This marked PSG’s fourth victory in a two-legged knockout tie against Premier League opposition since last year, while Chelsea appeared a long way off the standard needed for Europe’s top competitions.
Liam Rosenior’s team never truly looked capable of overturning the deficit from the first leg, when they conceded three late goals at the Parc des Princes to go from 2-2 to 5-2 down.
“It was always going to be a tough night, and we started the game poorly,” Rosenior said. The manager now turns his focus to securing Champions League qualification next season after a tough week that included two losses to PSG and a home defeat to Newcastle.
“When you go through a rough patch, you need to ensure your routines are right,” he added. “We face a difficult game at Everton on Saturday and must be at our best to get a result.”
Robert Sanchez started in goal, taking over from Filip Jorgensen, who had been at fault for PSG’s crucial third goal in the first leg.
PSG, meanwhile, gave Kvaratskhelia a start after his decisive late goals in Paris swung the tie in their favour. They also benefited from extra rest after their Ligue 1 match against Nantes was postponed.
Within six minutes, PSG took the lead as Mamadou Sarr misjudged a long ball from goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, allowing Kvaratskhelia to outmuscle the defender and finish past Sanchez. The second goal arrived on the 15-minute mark, with Achraf Hakimi setting up Barcola for a superb strike into the top-left corner.
By then, the tie was effectively over, and Chelsea fans began leaving when Mayulu added a third in the 61st minute. Kvaratskhelia’s cross found the 19-year-old substitute, who struck first-time past Sanchez.
Chelsea have now conceded 65 goals this season, and their woes were compounded when Trevoh Chalobah was stretchered off late with a sprained ankle, forcing the hosts to finish with 10 men. Rosenior said he was “praying it’s nothing too serious.” — AFP
