WASHINGTON, July 1 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House next week for talks with President Donald Trump, as the U.S. intensifies efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, a U.S. official confirmed on Monday.
MANCHESTER, Feb 4 — The Premier League’s transfer deadline day saw Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur making key moves, while Manchester United, Arsenal, and Newcastle remained largely inactive.
Winners
Manchester City
Struggling to maintain their dominance this season, City spent £170 million to bolster their squad. Nico Gonzalez joined from Porto in a £50 million deal to strengthen the midfield ahead of their Champions League clash against Real Madrid. They also secured Omar Marmoush, who has 20 goals for Eintracht Frankfurt this season, to ease the burden on Erling Haaland.
Aston Villa
Villa cashed in on Jhon Duran, selling him to Al Nassr for £64 million, and reinvested in their squad. They secured Marcus Rashford (Man United) and Marco Asensio (PSG) on loan, while Donyell Malen arrived from Borussia Dortmund. Crucially, they resisted Arsenal’s bid for Ollie Watkins.
Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs took their time but made late moves, including Kevin Danso (Lens) and Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich), who arrived on loan despite rejecting an earlier £50million permanent move. Antonin Kinsky was also signed as goalkeeping cover.
Losers
Manchester United
United made just one signing, Patrick Dorgu (Lecce) for £25 million, leaving them with limited attacking options. Despite Rashford’s loan move to Villa and Antony’s loan to Real Betis, they failed to secure reinforcements and lacked are cognized striker in their 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace.
Arsenal
Despite dominating Manchester City 5-1, no Arsenal player has hit double digits in Premier League goals this season. They missed out on Ollie Watkins, leaving Kai Havertz as their main attacking option after Gabriel Jesus’ season-ending injury.
Newcastle
Despite their Saudi-backed ownership, financial regulations limited spending, forcing them to sell Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly. Manager Eddie Howe admitted the situation was "not ideal" after back-to-back home losses dented their top-four hopes.
With the window now closed, clubs will have to make do with what they have for the remainder of the season. — AFP
