Dawn Aerospace Achieves Supersonic Flight with Rocket-Powered Aircraft

WELLINGTON, 18 NOV - Dawn Aerospace’s rocket-powered aircraft, the Mk-II Aurora,successfully completed its first supersonic flight on Nov. 12, reaching Mach1.1 and an altitude of 82,500 feet (25.14 km), the company announced on Tuesday. Conducted near Mt Cook in New Zealand, this marks the first civil supersonic flight since Concorde and is over twice as high as typical commercial aircraft. The Mk-II Aurora also set a record as the fastest aircraft to climb from ground level to 20 km.

Jointly headquartered in the Netherlands and New Zealand, Dawn Aerospace is developing rocket-powered aircraft capable of launching satellites. The Mk-II Aurora, designed to fly to the edge of space twice daily at speeds up to Mach 3.5, is powered by pure Dawn Aerospace’s rocket-powered aircraft, the Mk-II Aurora, successfully completed its first supersonic flight on Nov. 12, reaching Mach 1.1 and an altitude of 82,500 feet (25.14 km)
