GAZA CITY, Feb 13 — Israel has warned it may resume war against Hamas and implement US President Donald Trump’s Palestinian relocation plan if hostages are not released by this weekend.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz issued the threat after Hamas rejected what it called US and Israeli “threats” over hostage releases under the current truce. Mediators from Qatar and Egypt are working to keep the ceasefire intact as both sides accuse each other of violations.

The truce, which began last month, has paused 15 months of conflict and facilitated limited hostage-prisoner exchanges. However, tensions are rising, with a sixth exchange set for Saturday now in doubt. Hamas claims Israel has breached the deal, while Trump warned that failure to release all hostages would result in severe consequences.

“If Hamas refuses, we will resume the war until Hamas is defeated and all hostages are freed,” Katz declared, adding that this could pave the way for Trump's plan to relocate Gaza’s population.

Hamas remains defiant, insisting that hostage releases depend on Israel’s compliance with the agreement. Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has urged both sides to uphold the ceasefire, stressing that “hundreds of thousands of lives depend on it.”
