SIK, March 25 — An eight-year-old boy was found drowned in Sungai Muda at Kampung Tanjung Jeneri near here today.

Sik District Police deputy chief DSP Safuan Md Noor said the victim, Muhammad Fatah Saiful, a pupil at SK Kota Bukit, left home around 2 pm to cycle with friends.

The boy reportedly went to the river at 4:30 pm and is believed to have drowned shortly after entering the water.

“The river is only a five-minute walk from his house, and as he could not swim, it appears this was his first visit,” Safuan said. Friends sought help from villagers, and one man managed to pull the boy to the riverbank by his leg.

The victim’s mother was informed of the incident around 5 pm after receiving a call that her son had been found unconscious. Ministry of Health personnel pronounced him dead at the scene, and his body was sent to Sik Hospital for a post-mortem.

“The case has been classified as sudden death. No physical injuries were found, and police have ruled out foul play,” Safuan added. — Bernama
