IPOH, March 28 — An eight-year-old girl, believed to be a victim of abuse, died in Taiping on Thursday after being found with multiple injuries.

Taiping district police chief Abdul Malek Ismail said authorities were alerted to the case following a report from a medical officer at Taiping Hospital.

He said the child was brought to the hospital unconscious at around 12.43pm.

“Doctors performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for 40 minutes, but there were no signs of recovery before she was pronounced dead at 1.12pm.

“Further examination revealed several suspicious injuries, and post-mortem findings indicated the cause of death was head and neck trauma due to blunt force,” he said in a statement today.

Following the incident, police have launched an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Four individuals — two men and two women aged between 27 and 53, believed to be family members — have been detained to assist in the investigation.

“All suspects have been remanded for seven days starting March 27,” he added. — Bernama
