TOKYO, March 6 — Japan Football Association President Tsuneyasu Miyamoto expressed disappointment after FIFA ruled out Japan's bid to host the 2031 Women’s World Cup.

FIFA announced that only North American and African nations could bid for the 2031 tournament, while the 2035 edition would be awarded to Europe or Africa. This means Japan, the 2011 Women's World Cup champions, will have to wait until at least 2039 for a chance to host.

Miyamoto emphasized that despite the setback, Japan remains committed to growing women's football, increasing participation, and improving the national team’s competitiveness. He also hinted at a potential bid for the 2039 tournament.
