PARIS – 26 NOV - American car manufacturer Cadillac will join the Formula One grid as the eleventh team in 2026, following an agreement in principle with Formula 1 and its owners. General Motors (GM),Cadillac's parent company, plans to develop its own engines for future seasons, but the team will initially use Ferrari power units. The decision comes after extensive discussions with Formula 1 and GM's partners, TWG Global, over the viability of the entry. GM had also registered with the FIA to become an F1 engine manufacturer starting in 2028, further demonstrating its commitment to the sport.

The announcement follows Formula 1’s earlier rejection of a bid led by Andretti Global, owned by Michael Andretti, son of 1978 world champion Mario Andretti. The Andretti name has since been removed from the proposal, with Mario taking on an ambassadorial role. GM president Mark Reuss called the development an honor and pledged to elevate the sport for fans worldwide. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali have expressed their full support for the team’s entry, marking a significant step in the sport's expansion, particularly in the U.S., where Formula 1’s popularity continues to grow.
