LOS ANGELES, May 24 — Firefighters warned on Friday that a tank of toxic chemicals in California is continuing to heat up, raising concerns of a potential large-scale explosion that has already led to the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents.
ISTANBUL, May 24 — Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, has arrived in Istanbul, Turkiye for a special three-day visit to the country.
Her Majesty was accompanied by the Tunku Temenggong of Johor, Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim; the Tunku Panglima of Johor, Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim; and the Tunku Putera of Johor, Tunku Abu Bakar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.
The royal entourage arrived aboard a private aircraft at Istanbul Airport at 6.10pm local time (11.10pm Malaysian time) and was welcomed by Turkiye’s Deputy Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mehmet Zahid Uzun, along with Istanbul Deputy Governor Mustafa Kaya.
Also present to receive the delegation were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Malaysia’s Consul General in Istanbul Ahmad Amiri Abu Bakar, Istana Negara Grand Chamberlain Datuk Azuan Effendy Zairakithnaini, and Comptroller of the Royal Household of Johor Colonel (Rtd) Datuk Mohamed Perang Musa.
As part of the visit, Raja Zarith Sofiah is scheduled to attend the Naming and Launching Ceremony of a Royal Malaysian Navy vessel at the Istanbul Shipyard today.
The Queen departed for Turkiye from the Royal Hangar at Senai International Airport in Johor yesterday morning. — Bernama
