HARBIN, Feb 10 — Hong Kong has demanded action against Turkmenistan after a violent post-match brawl left two of its ice hockey players hospitalized at the Asian Winter Games in Harbin.

The fight erupted after Hong Kong’s 5-1 victory over Turkmenistan on Sunday, with Chinese state media reporting that several Hong Kong players were knocked down. Footage circulating on social media showed at least three Turkmenistan players throwing punches as referees tried to intervene.

In a statement, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong (SF&OC) strongly condemned the “deliberate attack” and confirmed that two injured players received hospital treatment but were in stable condition. The committee has raised the issue with the International Ice Hockey Federation and urged local organizers to impose “necessary punishment.”

Turkmenistan has yet to respond.

The Harbin Games, now in their ninth edition, will conclude on February 14. — AFP
