SHANGHAI - 24 NOV — Huawei, facing US sanctions, has set a target of 100,000 applications for its Harmony operating system over the next six to 12 months, aiming for greater self-reliance. While it currently has over 15,000 apps that cover basic consumer needs, the company seeks more personalized and specialized applications to make its ecosystem mature. Huawei Chairman Xu Zhijun emphasized the need for this milestone to fully meet consumer demands and urged developers, as well as government and state organizations, to adopt Harmony OS.
Since launching Harmony OS five years ago after US sanctions cut off access to Google’s Android, Huawei has been focused on accelerating its development of a home-grown operating system. Xu acknowledged that despite significant progress, the system’s success depends on widespread adoption, and called on consumers to be patient as it continues to mature. He reaffirmed Huawei’s commitment to strengthening the Harmony ecosystem, despite the ongoing tensions with the US.
