WASHINGTON, July 1 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House next week for talks with President Donald Trump, as the U.S. intensifies efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, a U.S. official confirmed on Monday.
WASHINGTON, Feb 11 — US President Donald Trump has stated that Palestinians will not have the right to return to Gaza under his proposed redevelopment plan, contradicting earlier claims from US officials that relocation would be temporary.
In a Fox News interview, Trump suggested striking a deal with Jordan and Egypt to take in displaced Palestinians, citing the billions in aid the US provides both nations. He emphasized that Palestinians would be given "much better housing" elsewhere, arguing that Gaza would take years to become livable again.
On February 4, after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump proposed resettling Gaza’s 2.2 million residents and transforming the enclave into the "Riviera of the Middle East." However, Palestinians, including Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, have firmly rejected any forced relocation.
Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri criticized Trump’s remarks as "irresponsible," warning they could escalate tensions. Netanyahu, while supportive of redevelopment, suggested Palestinians could return after Gaza is rebuilt. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has maintained that any relocation would be temporary, though he stopped short of confirming long-term displacement.
Trump's comments come as a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains at risk, with Hamas suspending the release of Israeli hostages over alleged violations of the agreement. Regional leaders, including Egypt and Jordan, have also opposed any forced transfers, warning of instability. Trump is set to meet Jordan’s King Abdullah today to discuss the matter. — Reuters
