JAKARTA, Jan 15 — Indonesia plans to enforce interim child guidelines for social media companies as it prepares  protection legislation to establish a minimum age for users, a senior official from the communications ministry announced today.

Communications Minister Meutya Hafid stated on Monday that the government intends to introduce a regulation setting an age limit for social media use, following discussions with President Prabowo Subianto. This move aims to safeguard children online and aligns with global efforts like Australia’s recent ban on social media access for those under 16.
