SYDNEY, Feb 26 — An Australian couple has criticized Qatar Airways after being seated next to a deceased passenger during a long-haul flight.

Mitchell Ring recounted that a passenger died mid-flight during the 14-hour journey from Melbourne to Doha last week. Airline staff attempted to move the body to business class but were unable to do so due to space constraints.

“They looked frustrated, then saw the available seats next to me,” Ring told Nine News. He remained beside the corpse for about four hours, even after landing.

His wife, Jennifer Colin, expressed distress over the experience, stating, “I’m not a great flier at the best of times. There should be a protocol to handle such situations better.”

Despite other empty seats on the plane, Ring was asked to move so that the deceased passenger could be placed in his seat.

In response, Qatar Airways issued a statement apologizing “for any inconvenience or distress” and extended condolences to the deceased passenger’s family. — AFP
