KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 — Two foreign nationals have become the first individuals in Malaysia to be charged in court for littering under the newly enforced anti-littering law, according to a report by The Star.
KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has identified 240 locations for the upgrading of hawker facilities under the Lestari Niaga programme, said Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud.
He said the sites were determined through a census conducted by DBKL and the programme is expected to benefit around 10,000 hawkers by providing improved facilities.
Fadlun noted that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s proposal to ensure hawkers can operate in a more comfortable and conducive environment.
He made the remarks during a press conference on DBKL’s 50 per cent reduction in site rental rates for hawkers and certain premises under its supervision.
Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh and Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Fadlun said that for the first phase of the Lestari Niaga programme, DBKL has appointed 61 contractors to carry out repair and upgrading works on public infrastructure at 120 locations, with work expected to begin after Hari Raya.
“The remaining 120 locations will be carried out in the second phase, which will be implemented immediately after the first phase of public infrastructure repairs is completed,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said DBKL has taken enforcement action against 17 hawkers who were found to have sublet their Ramadan bazaar stall sites to third parties, ordering the immediate closure of their businesses. — Bernama
