KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has rolled out a historic 347,000 seats for the upcoming long holiday weekend, marking the largest capacity boost ever recorded by the rail company.

The unprecedented seat expansion is designed to manage an extraordinary surge in travel demand, triggered by three major public holidays falling within a two-week window: Hari Raya Aidiladha, Wesak Day, and the Official Birthday of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

KTMB Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri stated that the holiday seat allocation has shattered all previous company records.

“This time, we are facing an extended holiday period and are providing the highest number of tickets ever for Hari Raya Aidiladha, even exceeding ticket sales during the recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri. We are providing 347,000 seats compared with 150,000 during the previous festive season, meaning the current capacity has increased by more than twofold,” he told Bernama at KL Sentral today.

Out of the total inventory spanning over 900 train journeys, nearly 80 percent (**270,000 tickets**) have already been snapped up, leaving roughly 60,000 to 70,000 tickets still available.

Azlan Shah noted that the East Coast routes via the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran service are completely sold out. Meanwhile, the southern route (Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru) has reached 88 percent capacity, and the northern route (Kuala Lumpur to Padang Besar) stands at 82 percent.

To alleviate travel expenses for holidaymakers heading home, KTMB has rolled out the Madani30 initiative, offering passengers a 30 percent discount subject to specific terms.

“For the Ekspres Lambaian Aidiladha (ELA) service, we are also offering a 30 per cent discount under the superior seat category to help ease the burden on the people and assist them in travelling to their destinations,” Azlan Shah added.

Addressing operational readiness, the CEO assured the public that all technical workflows—including train sets, track infrastructure, signalling systems, and contingency protocols—are fully optimized to safeguard passenger safety and comfort.

He also emphasized that counterfeit ticketing would not be an issue, thanks to KTMB’s smartphone-based ticketless boarding and the implementation of its Open Payment System. — Bernama
