WASHINGTON, April 27 — A man accused of targeting US administration officials at a Washington event has been arrested after allegedly opening fire, injuring a Secret Service agent.
PUTRAJAYA, June 21 — The Government Procurement Bill, expected to be tabled in Parliament later this year, aims to enhance legal enforcement against individuals or entities found guilty of offences related to government procurement.
The bill also seeks to introduce a dedicated legal framework to govern the procurement process, clearly define the powers of involved parties, and strengthen checks and balances to promote good governance in line with international standards.
The proposal and draft of the bill were presented by the Ministry of Finance’s Government Procurement Division, led by its secretary Datuk Norison Ramli, during a briefing session with Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki at the MACC headquarters today.
Norison stated that the Finance Ministry welcomes input from the MACC, especially on enforcement matters and the application of relevant laws under the commission’s purview.
Azam voiced his support for the bill’s key proposals, saying they align well with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS).
“NACS provides an ideal platform for the MACC to address weaknesses in the procurement system, and we fully support this initiative,” he said. — Bernama
