WASHINGTON, July 1 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House next week for talks with President Donald Trump, as the U.S. intensifies efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, a U.S. official confirmed on Monday.
KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 — The government is prioritizing efforts to position Malaysia as a secure investment destination, leveraging its political and economic stability, pro-business policies, and strategic location in Southeast Asia, according to the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI).
The ministry stated that this initiative would be reinforced through an export diversification strategy, broadening Malaysia’s product offerings, particularly in emerging markets across Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
“As a trading nation, Malaysia remains committed to a non-aligned stance in global economic blocs. The government believes expanding trade partnerships will drive economic growth. Malaysia’s neutral position in geopolitics and balanced diplomatic relations inspire investor confidence, making it a stable and secure investment destination,” MITI stated on the parliament website today.
MITI’s statement was in response to Senator Dr Wan Martina Wan Yusoff’s inquiry regarding government measures following universal tariff policies and trade restrictions imposed on China, Mexico, and Canada, which could impact Malaysia and ASEAN.
To further strengthen trade ties, the government plans to diversify and expand Malaysia’s export markets through new free trade agreements (FTAs) and is exploring potential agreements with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and other nations.
“At the bilateral level, diplomatic engagements, discussions, and strategic collaborations will continue with the United States Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative Office.
“Malaysia will also actively participate in multilateral forums and regional FTAs such as the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP),” MITI added. — Bernama
