JAKARTA - 26 NOV - Mount Dukono, located in Indonesia's North Maluku province, erupted on Tuesday, sending a column of thick ash 4.6 kilometers into the sky. The eruption, which occurred at 9:43 am local time, has prompted the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Centre to issue an aviation warning, prohibiting flights below five kilometers in altitude around the volcano. The ash is drifting northwest of the eruption site, and an orange Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation has been issued.
Authorities have also placed strict restrictions on the area around Mount Dukono, banning climbers and residents from coming within three kilometers of the crater. Residents are urged to wear face masks during ash dispersion events, as the ash can spread unpredictably. Standing 1,087 meters above sea level, Mount Dukono is one of Indonesia's 127 active volcanoes.
