WASHINGTON, March 13 — Two NASA astronauts stranded on the International Space Station (ISS) for over nine months may have to wait longer to return after the SpaceX Crew-10 launch was postponed.

The Falcon 9 rocket was set to launch from Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday but was canceled 45 minutes before liftoff due to a ground hydraulic system issue. The next launch opportunity is Thursday, with a backup on Friday.

NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams have been stuck on the ISS since June after their Boeing Starliner spacecraft was deemed unfit for return. Originally on an eight-day mission, they were reassigned to Crew-9, which can only return after Crew-10 arrives.

The Crew-10 team—NASA’s Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, Japan’s Takuya Onishi, and Russia’s Kirill Peskov—will replace them and conduct scientific experiments, including flammability tests for future spacecraft.

Wilmore and Williams’ extended stay has sparked political debate, with Elon Musk accusing the Biden administration of abandoning them, though NASA insists their return follows standard procedures. Despite geopolitical tensions, the U.S. and Russia continue space cooperation. — AFP
