TOKYO- 22 NOV - Nissan Motor plans to cut or transfer around 1,000 jobs in Thailand as it consolidates production operations, sources revealed. The carmaker will partially halt operations at Thailand Plant 1 and move production to Plant 2 by September 2025. A spokesperson confirmed the ongoing consolidation to upgrade equipment but stated no plants would close.

This move is part of Nissan's global restructuring after announcing 9,000 job cuts worldwide earlier this month. Nissan's Thailand sales dropped 30% in the last financial year, while competition from Chinese electric vehicle makers grows in the region. The Thailand plants produce models like the Kicks for Southeast Asia and the Terra for export markets.

Nissan's Thailand sales fell 30% to 14,000 units in the financial year ending March 2024.
