KOTA KINABALU, Sept 4 — Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) information chief Datuk Haji Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan has dismissed a viral WhatsApp screenshot allegedly linking him to several individuals, calling it a malicious fabrication aimed at discrediting him and tarnishing the party’s image.

“I categorically deny the circulation of this WhatsApp screenshot purportedly involving me with several other individuals. This baseless slander was clearly concocted to damage my reputation and smear Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat),” he said in a statement today.

Nizam, who also serves as Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister and Apas assemblyman, confirmed that he lodged a police report at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD) earlier this afternoon.

Describing the allegation as an act of “dirty politics,” Nizam said the same individual had previously made similar accusations against Kunak assemblywoman Datuk Norazlinah Arif. He added that his lawyer has been instructed to issue a letter of demand against Atan (Tandiko Bin Dalusin, Facebook account “Huzaifah Al-Likasi”), whom he named as the key perpetrator behind the defamatory post.

“Politics must be built on arguments, facts and ideas, not lies and manipulation. This kind of slander not only undermines my reputation and the party’s credibility, but also risks stirring public unrest, especially when linked to sensitive issues such as Justice for Zara,” he stressed.

He urged the authorities, including the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, to take swift action against those responsible.

“I want to make it clear that I have never sent the messages being circulated. They are pure fabrications created with malicious intent to discredit me and disrupt public harmony. Ultimately, the truth will prevail,” he said.

On the recent Justice for Zara Qairina gathering in Tawau on August 31, Nizam said he respected the community’s right to express concern and demand justice for the young girl’s tragic death.

“I recognise the gathering as a show of solidarity with Zara’s passing and respect the community’s right to seek justice. However, I urge that such noble efforts not be overshadowed by remarks or actions that breach the law,” he said.

He noted that police had already taken action over allegedly seditious remarks made during the rally and stressed that the legal process should be respected.

“What matters most now is ensuring public focus remains on the true objective — seeking truth, justice, and long-term solutions to safeguard the wellbeing of our students,” he added. — The Borneo Post
