SYDNEY, May 26 — A group of seven women and 12 children believed to be linked to Islamic State fighters are returning to Australia after spending years in Syria, the Australian interior minister said Tuesday.
KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 — Police arrested 51 men in four separate raids linked to drug abuse and a “gay party” at a luxury hotel in the capital early yesterday morning.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department Director Datuk Seri Hussein Omar Khan said the operations, carried out between 2.35am and 5am, saw the detention of 23 local men and 28 foreign nationals aged between 21 and 52.
He said police also confiscated various drugs estimated to be worth RM103,070 during the raids. Among the substances seized were 1.15 kilogrammes of liquid methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), 284 grammes of MDMA powder, 8.56 grammes of ecstasy pills, 8.7 grammes of ecstasy powder, and 11.61 grammes of ketamine.
“Preliminary urine tests found 36 individuals positive for drugs, while 15 tested negative. Police checks also revealed that one suspect has a previous drug-related criminal record,” he said.
Hussein added that officers had earlier noticed a man believed to be connected to the gathering being carried out unconscious from the hotel lobby.
“The victim was taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” he said.
Investigations found that the group had allegedly been using rooms at the upscale hotel for partying, drug consumption, and immoral activities.
All suspects have been remanded for between three and six days to facilitate investigations.
The case is being investigated under Sections 39B, 39A(1), 12(2), and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — Bernama
