PARIS, March 2 – Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Lille, extending their Ligue 1 lead to 16 points ahead of their highly anticipated Champions League showdown with Liverpool.
Bradley Barcola, Marquinhos, Ousmane Dembélé, and Désiré Doué all found the net in the first half at the Parc des Princes, maintaining PSG’s unbeaten league run to 24 matches this season.
“It’s the perfect preparation for Liverpool,” said PSG captain Marquinhos. “We’re in great form, confident, and fully focused.”
Lille's Jonathan David netted a late consolation goal before his side travels to Borussia Dortmund for their Champions League last-16 tie.
With PSG cruising toward an 11th league title in 13 years, the real test comes against Premier League leaders Liverpool, who had the weekend off. “We’ve been in great form for a while now,” Marquinhos added. “This match was about fine-tuning for the Champions League.”
Coach Luis Enrique fielded a strong lineup, and PSG wasted no time asserting dominance. Barcola opened the scoring in the sixth minute, following up Dembélé’s rebounded shot. Marquinhos doubled the lead with a header from Doué’s cross, while Dembélé made it 3-0 before Doué fired in a spectacular fourth.
PSG have now scored four goals in four of their last five home matches, securing their 15th win in 16 games since the start of the year.
Lille coach Bruno Genesio criticized the tight schedule, as his team faces Dortmund just 72 hours after this match. “The scheduling is scandalous,” he said.
Nice Keep Pressure on Marseille
Earlier in the day, Nice pulled level with second-placed Marseille after a 3-1 victory over Saint-Étienne. Pablo Rosario put Nice ahead before Lucas Stassin equalized. However, an own goal by Mickaël Nadé and a late strike from Evann Guessand sealed Nice’s fourth straight win.
Elsewhere, Le Havre staged a dramatic comeback, overturning a two-goal deficit to beat Lens 4-3. Josué Casimir and Ahmed Hassan's stoppage-time penalty completed the turnaround.
