DHAHRAN, March 14 — Saudi Aramco has denied reports claiming it is in talks with Ukrainian companies to purchase interceptor drones to protect its oil facilities from aerial attacks.

In a statement to Reuters, the Saudi oil giant said recent media reports suggesting it was discussing the procurement of such drones were inaccurate.

The clarification followed a report by The Wall Street Journal which claimed Aramco was negotiating with at least two Ukrainian companies to acquire interceptor drones to safeguard its oilfields.

The report surfaced amid heightened regional tensions, with Iran responding to the US-Israeli offensive by targeting energy and other facilities across the region and effectively closing the Strait of Hormuz — a key global oil transit route through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes. — Reuters
