SEOUL, April 3 — South Korea and France have pledged to strengthen cooperation on maritime safety in the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing tensions in West Asia.

In a joint statement following talks between President Lee Jae Myung and visiting French President Emmanuel Macron, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding key shipping routes and addressing economic and energy challenges linked to the conflict.

They also agreed to expand collaboration in nuclear and offshore wind energy, while enhancing strategic ties, particularly in defence. Macron stressed the importance of de-escalating violence in the region.

The visit marks his first trip to South Korea since taking office in 2017. — Bernama-Xinhua
