PUTRAJAYA, April 24 — The Ministry of Education (MoE) will carry out an in-depth review of each subject’s performance in the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination to identify areas for improvement and strengthen the national education system, said Secretary-General Datuk Aminuddin Hassim.

Although the 2024 SPM results showed promising progress, Aminuddin emphasised that the ministry remains dedicated to continuous improvement.

“We will assess the quality of each subject during the post-mortem and work on enhancing those with minor shortcomings. At the same time, we will focus on how to better support candidates taking the SPM this year,” he said during a media briefing after observing the announcement of the SPM 2024 results at Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah (SAS) today.

He also said the ministry will gather feedback to improve the overall examination ecosystem, including providing counselling support to help students make informed career and education choices.

“We want feedback on aspects such as the best timing to announce results online. We’ll also explore how to better support parents in guiding their children after receiving their results.

“For example, ensuring access to counselling services to help students decide on their next steps, whether for further studies or career paths,” he added.

Aminuddin said the release of this year’s results also offers the ministry a chance to reassess educational strategies in line with national development goals across various sectors.

“For instance, should we increase our focus on STEM education? Or give more attention to the arts stream? These are the questions we need to explore as we prepare students for the future workforce,” he said.

Earlier, Aminuddin attended the results announcement ceremony for 172 students from Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah, which once again achieved outstanding performance. All candidates qualified for their certificates, and over 45 per cent scored excellent grades (A+, A, A-) in all subjects taken.
