KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has dismissed trending social media claims regarding a power tariff increase this month, describing the rumors as deceptive and baseless.

Through a Facebook statement, TNB explained that electricity price fluctuations are strictly regulated by the Automatic Fuel Adjustment (AFA) framework.

The utility giant noted that the AFA system, which launched last July, calculates costs based on international fuel markets and currency shifts, with all monthly updates subject to Energy Commission (ST) approval. TNB further announced that it is filing a formal complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to address the circulation of fake news. The firm urged citizens to stop sharing unconfirmed reports to prevent widespread panic and misunderstanding.

Users are encouraged to consult TNB’s verified platforms for official tariff updates or reach out to the TNB Careline through email or social media for further clarification. — Bernama
