TORONTO, Feb 19 – Shocking footage has surfaced showing a Delta Air Lines plane slamming onto the runway at Toronto Pearson International Airport before flipping upside down in a fiery crash.

The Bombardier CRJ-900, carrying 76 passengers and four crew members from Minneapolis, attempted to land amid strong winds and snow on Monday. Despite the dramatic scene—plumes of black smoke and a fireball engulfing the aircraft—all onboard survived.

Toronto airport authority chief Deborah Flint praised the crew for evacuating passengers under extreme conditions. At least 21 people were hospitalized, with injuries ranging from minor to critical, though none were life-threatening.

Investigators from Canada’s Transportation Safety Board, along with the US Federal Aviation Administration and Delta representatives, are examining the crash. The plane’s flight and voice recorders have been recovered, but officials say it’s too early to determine the cause.

A video taken from another cockpit shows the plane’s rough landing, its right wing shearing off as it overturned. Passengers reported the strong smell of jet fuel, with some experiencing nausea.

This crash follows a series of recent aviation incidents in North America, including a deadly mid-air collision in Washington and a medical transport plane crash in Philadelphia. – AFP
