PESHAWAR, March 8 — A Pakistani man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting the administrator of a community WhatsApp group who removed him from the chat, police confirmed today.

Mushtaq Ahmed was fatally shot on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province bordering Afghanistan known for its history of sectarian violence.

According to police documents reviewed by AFP and a local police official, a man identified only as Ashfaq has been charged with the murder.

Mushtaq allegedly removed Ashfaq from the WhatsApp group following an argument, according to a statement from Mushtaq’s brother seen by AFP.

The two had agreed to meet for reconciliation, but Ashfaq reportedly arrived armed and opened fire, killing Mushtaq.

Ashfaq acted out of anger over being removed from the WhatsApp group, the statement said.
