LONDON, April 11 — West Ham moved out of the Premier League relegation zone with a commanding 4-0 victory over Wolves yesterday, a result that pushed Tottenham into the bottom three.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side opened the scoring at the London Stadium when Konstantinos Mavropanos headed home in the first half.

Valentin Castellanos struck twice after the break to seal the win, lifting fourth-bottom West Ham—who began the night in the drop zone—two points clear of third-bottom Tottenham. Mavropanos later added his second goal late on to complete the emphatic scoreline, in a twist that saw the former Arsenal defender deal a blow to his old club’s north London rivals.

It marks the first time Tottenham have finished a Premier League matchday in the bottom three since August 2015, when they lost 1-0 to Manchester United.

Spurs, however, could climb out of the relegation zone if they beat Sunderland in Roberto De Zerbi’s first match in charge on Sunday.

The north London club now have seven games remaining to avoid dropping into the second tier for the first time since the 1977–78 season.

Meanwhile, Wolves remain bottom of the table, 15 points from safety with just six games left, leaving them on the brink of relegation.

West Ham, who were knocked out on penalties by Leeds in the FA Cup quarter-finals last weekend, responded with a crucial win in their survival battle.

Manager Nuno said: “All of us deserve this kind of evening, especially our fans. The London Stadium was amazing, full of energy.”

He added that the team improved significantly after a difficult first half and credited their spirit for the turnaround, while stressing that much work still remains despite a “big step” forward.

Wolves, who had not played for 25 days due to the international break and cup exit, struggled to find rhythm and were punished for missed chances and defensive errors.

West Ham capitalised in the 42nd minute when Mavropanos scored from a corner created by Jarrod Bowen.

Castellanos then put the game beyond doubt with a quick double in the 66th and 68th minutes before Mavropanos sealed the rout with a late volley from another set piece. — AFP
