TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
PUTRAJAYA, Dec 10 — Malaysia will unveil the Malaysia Higher Education Plan (PPTM) 2026–2035 in January, outlining a long-term strategy to keep the nation’s universities competitive and future-ready.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to launch the plan in the second week of January. The blueprint aims to strengthen the relevance, resilience and global standing of Malaysia’s higher education system in line with the Malaysia Madani vision.
Framed as a “living document,” PPTM 2026–2035 can be reviewed and updated regularly to respond to fast-changing global trends, especially emerging technologies such as next-gen AI, biotechnology, quantum tech and sustainable innovations.
Centred on two pillars — technological advancement and human value development — the plan seeks to produce ethical and skilled nation builders. AI will influence curriculum development, research, innovation and local talent growth, while language mastery will be expanded across Malay, English, Mandarin, Tamil, Arabic and indigenous languages.
The plan also emphasises inclusivity, offering more flexible pathways for STPM and matriculation graduates through broader admission routes, cross-disciplinary options and high-impact programmes.
Zambry said the roadmap supports Malaysia’s goal of becoming a regional education hub and reflects input from more than 8,000 stakeholders. It will be rolled out in phases. — Bernama
