BEIJING, July 5 — Iran’s ambassador to China has said that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz will be subject to new charges, while indicating that “friendly” countries may receive preferential treatment, a proposal opposed by Washington.
MIRI, July 3 — A four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle nearly plunged into a ravine after slipping off a deteriorating logging bridge along the road to SK Long Pelutan, renewing concerns over unsafe rural road conditions in the Baram interior.
The incident occurred on Wednesday along a route linking Long Lama and Miri, commonly used by teachers travelling to and from the school. No teachers or students were in the vehicle at the time.
The vehicle belonged to the family of Salyndra Anyta, who said the bridge had been repaired by villagers just two days earlier before the accident happened.
She described the road as extremely hazardous, adding that several sections remain in poor condition despite ongoing logging activity in the area. The vehicle was later recovered without any injuries.
Salyndra said similar incidents have occurred at the same spot before, calling for urgent repairs and improved maintenance of rural infrastructure rather than reactive fixes after accidents.
She urged authorities to act quickly to prevent more serious incidents, while no official response had been issued at the time of reporting. — The Borneo Post
