KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 — Police have arrested the mother of two young children who were captured in a viral video leaning out of the sunroof of a moving car.

Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the 30-year-old woman was detained yesterday after voluntarily turning up at the Kajang District Police Headquarters to have her statement recorded. She was later released on police bail.

According to Naazron, police launched an investigation after detecting the widely shared video on social media involving the children, aged four and six.

He said the incident is believed to have occurred along the Grand Saga Highway near Kampung Batu 10 in Cheras, with a police report lodged at 5.28pm yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 336 of the Penal Code for allegedly endangering the lives or personal safety of others through a negligent act.

Naazron reminded the public to obey traffic regulations and act responsibly to safeguard both themselves and other road users, particularly children.

He also appealed to anyone with information about the incident to contact the investigating officer, Insp. S. Tharani, at 017-7331935 to assist with the investigation.
