GEORGE TOWN, Aug 27 — A 30-year-old teacher reportedly cut his wife's neck before harming himself, injuring his left wrist and neck during a pre-dawn incident at their home in Sungai Ara.

In the 6am event, the mother of the 28-year-old woman heard screams coming from the room on the second floor of the house.

When she entered the room to check, she saw the man over her daughter trying to cut her neck.

"She quickly pulled her daughter off the bed, and they both hurried out of the room," stated Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam, the police chief of the Southwest district.

"Simultaneously, the suspect was observed cutting his left wrist and his neck," he mentioned.

The couple is thought to be teachers at the same school and are said to live with the wife's family.

They have a daughter who is three years old.

The couple is said to have studied Mandarin together in Beijing, China.

Sazalee reported that the wife suffered a neck injury but is currently stable.

The suspect has sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the red zone at Penang Hospital.

"Witnesses reported that the couple had no relationship troubles, financial issues, or health concerns," he stated.

The police are looking into the case according to Section 306 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
