WASHINGTON, April 27 — A man accused of targeting US administration officials at a Washington event has been arrested after allegedly opening fire, injuring a Secret Service agent.
KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 — Social media platforms removed 43,618 pieces of scam-related content in the first quarter of this year, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said.
She noted that the takedowns were carried out following requests from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), with platform providers generally complying.
Teo highlighted a sharp rise in such cases over the years, from 6,297 in 2023 to 63,652 in 2024 and 98,503 in 2025, describing the trend as alarming. She stressed the need for greater collaboration, including from the media, to improve public digital literacy.
However, she added that not all requests were fulfilled, with 212,070 out of 255,931 takedown requests since 2023 being acted upon.
In her speech at the 21st General Assembly of the Asean Journalists Federation, Teo also warned that scams, fake news and deepfakes are now global challenges, and reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to enhancing regional cooperation and setting clearer standards for AI use in media. — Bernama
