TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 — As of 3pm today, nine areas across Peninsular Malaysia have recorded unhealthy air quality levels, according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) by the Environment Department (DOE).
Alor Gajah in Melaka reported the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 157, followed by Seremban in Negeri Sembilan at 155, and Kemaman in Terengganu at 153.
Other affected locations include Johan Setia in Selangor, Temerloh in Pahang, and Balok Baru in Kuantan, all with readings of 152. Nilai in Negeri Sembilan recorded 138, Banting in Selangor 135, and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur 132.
According to DOE guidelines, API readings between 101 and 200 fall under the “unhealthy” category, posing risks especially to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and those with respiratory conditions.
The DOE has urged the public to minimise outdoor activities, wear face masks when outside, and seek medical attention if experiencing respiratory difficulties or shortness of breath.
