PUTRAJAYA, Aug 13 — The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has reported a 26 per cent rise in the issuance of Not to Land (NTL) notices at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA1) between May and July this year.

In a statement yesterday, AKPS said NTL cases increased from 900 in May to 987 in June, before rising again to 1,134 in July.

The agency said monitoring at entry points, especially during early morning hours, will be stepped up to curb illegal entry attempts via the high-risk aviation sector.

During an operation early yesterday, 40 Bangladeshi nationals were issued NTL notices at KLIA1 after being screened upon arrival on two flights from Dhaka between 1 am and 6 am.

“They were denied entry after reviews of their travel documents, purpose of visit, and return tickets raised suspicions and showed non-compliance with entry requirements. All will be deported within 24 hours,” the agency said.

In a separate incident, AKPS said three foreigners — two from Algeria and one from Iraq — were arrested for abusing their visit passes by begging at the KLIA1 Departure Hall.

The arrests were made during the “Ulat KLIA” operation conducted with the KLIA Security Team (AVSEC) from 8.30 am to 10.30 am.

“Their actions violated Malaysia’s entry rules, damaged the country’s image, and inconvenienced airport passengers,” AKPS said, adding that the individuals were handed over to the Selangor Immigration Department Enforcement Division for further investigation. — Bernama
