TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 —Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has described the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) as a transformative roadmap designed to help Malaysians navigate increasingly complex challenges, especially amid shifting global economic and geopolitical dynamics.
In his foreword to the 13MP document released today by the Ministry of Economy, Anwar—who also serves as Finance Minister—said the plan, themed “Melakar Semula Pembangunan” (Redesigning Development), represents a bold and strategic recalibration aligned with the vision of the Madani Economy.
He emphasised that the plan addresses a wide range of pressing national concerns, including the rising cost of living, stagnating wages, Malaysia’s transition into an ageing society, environmental decline, and the growing threat of climate change.
According to Anwar, 13MP is not just another routine policy document, but a people-centric framework grounded in the principles of Maqasid Syariah—aimed at restoring and uplifting human dignity.
“Our goal is to establish a social system that guarantees a life of dignity, not only through material access, but by nurturing spiritual strength, moral values, and intellectual excellence,” he said.
He also underscored the importance of robust, transparent, and accountable governance, rooted in Madani values, as a crucial foundation for ensuring fair and equitable distribution of national wealth across all segments of society.
To achieve developed nation status by 2030, Anwar stressed the need for accelerated economic growth, including expanding the nation’s economic capacity. He called for a shift towards value creation through digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI), alongside a culture of innovation to enhance the production of high-value goods under the “Made by Malaysia” banner.
This vision, he added, will be supported by the development of a skilled and diverse talent pipeline, covering fields from science and technology to the arts and creative industries.
Anwar reiterated that sustainable development will remain central to Malaysia’s progress, reflecting the country’s commitment to environmental stewardship for future generations.
He also outlined Malaysia’s aspirations to strengthen its global presence by positioning itself as a leading investment hub in Southeast Asia—particularly in sectors such as AI, semiconductors, and renewable energy.
In addition, Malaysia will continue advancing its role in the global Islamic economy by expanding Islamic finance offerings and strengthening the halal industry through international collaboration and market access.
The prime minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to all individuals and agencies involved in shaping the 13MP, acknowledging the effort, perseverance, and shared commitment that went into its formulation.
“Despite the challenges and complexities we faced, this plan was shaped through inclusive dialogue and consensus, a reflection of our collective love for the country,” he said.
He concluded with a call for unity and collaboration in implementing the 13MP agenda, expressing confidence that it will mark a pivotal chapter in the nation’s journey—one that elevates Malaysia’s dignity and cultivates a progressive, capable society. — Bernama
