TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s denial of claims that he defended the rights of foreigners in relation to the targeted RON95 fuel subsidy. In a statement today, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said Anwar has also called for appropriate action to be taken on the matter.
“The Prime Minister’s Office has noted the denial by the Pagoh Member of Parliament regarding the allegation of supporting foreigners in the RON95 subsidy rationalisation issue.
As a government committed to transparency and accountability, the Prime Minister has directed the MCMC to conduct an investigation and take the necessary steps,” the statement read.
Yesterday in the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar said he had received a report alleging that an opposition MP had spoken in defence of foreigners benefiting from the fuel subsidy.
Muhyiddin, the Pagoh MP and former prime minister, later refuted the claim in a social media post, asserting that he had never made any statement supporting foreign nationals in the subsidy matter.
He added that Perikatan Nasional (PN) has consistently maintained that subsidy policies should prioritise the welfare of Malaysians.
Separately, the MCMC confirmed it is aware of the issue and will take immediate action based on current legal provisions.
The commission also reminded the public not to misuse social media platforms to spread unverified information. — Bernama
