HONG KONG, April 27 — The Asian Games could be rescheduled to odd-numbered years from 2031 onwards, allowing the event to take place in the year leading up to the Olympics and potentially serve as a qualifying platform.

Reports said the proposed change would see the Games align more closely with the Olympic cycle, giving athletes a key preparatory and qualification opportunity.

Under the plan, the 2030 Asian Games in Doha would be moved to 2031, after which the event would continue on a four-year cycle in odd years.

The proposal has reportedly been approved by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) executive board, with further discussions expected with international sports federations.

OCA vice president Song Luzeng said the shift would help raise competition standards and provide athletes with more opportunities ahead of the Olympics. — AFP
