WASHINGTON, July 1 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House next week for talks with President Donald Trump, as the U.S. intensifies efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, a U.S. official confirmed on Monday.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — Bangladesh has committed to fully cooperating with Malaysian authorities following the arrest of 36 Bangladeshi nationals in a recent security operation linked to the Bangladeshi Radical Militant Group (GMRB).
In a statement yesterday, the Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Ministry said the country’s High Commission in Kuala Lumpur had promptly engaged with the relevant Malaysian authorities, formally requesting the identities of the individuals involved and details of the allegations against them.
According to the ministry, five of the individuals have been formally charged in Malaysian courts, while the remaining detainees are either still under investigation or facing deportation.
"The Bangladesh government is closely monitoring the situation. The High Commission in Kuala Lumpur remains in close contact with Malaysian authorities and will provide necessary assistance to Bangladeshi nationals as needed,” the statement added.
The ministry also reaffirmed Bangladesh’s strong opposition to terrorism, violent extremism, and militancy, and reiterated its commitment to fully support Malaysia’s efforts in addressing the matter.
Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail revealed that the group’s activities were first detected through social media accounts managed by Bangladeshi nationals using Malaysian IP addresses to spread Islamic State (IS) ideology.
He said a three-phase operation conducted between April and June led to the arrest of 36 members of the GMRB, including the group’s leader, effectively dismantling its network based in Johor. — Bernama
