TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has identified six Malaysian men, aged between 27 and 70, who were arrested by Cambodian authorities on July 16 for allegedly attempting to smuggle nearly 62 kilogrammes of cannabis to the United Kingdom via Phnom Penh International Airport.
According to Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the information was initially obtained through the Foreign Ministry, although an official notification from Cambodian authorities has yet to be received.
"PDRM will cooperate with the Foreign Ministry via the Malaysian Embassy in Cambodia to gather further details and results of the investigation from the Cambodian side. We will also continue our probe to uncover the syndicates involved," he told Bernama.
He noted that early investigations have not yet confirmed any links to international drug trafficking networks operating from Malaysia.
In light of the incident, Hussein urged Malaysians to be wary of online job offers that promise high pay, particularly those involving the transportation of parcels overseas without knowing the contents. He also cautioned the public to stay alert to the tactics of drug syndicates that often exploit Malaysians as couriers.
Cambodia’s The Phnom Penh Post reported yesterday that the arrests were made by the country’s Anti-Drug Department in coordination with customs and airport officials. The drugs were found packed in four suitcases, and the suspects were allegedly planning to travel to London via Hong Kong.
All six are expected to face charges under Article 40 of Cambodia’s Law on Drug Control. — Bernama
