WASHINGTON, Aug 25 — SpaceX has called off a scheduled test flight for its Starship megarocket on Sunday, citing the need for additional time to address issues, marking yet another setback for Elon Musk’s colossal project following a string of explosive failures.
MANCHESTER, Aug 9 — Manchester United’s upgraded training complex is now a “world-class performance environment” designed to help restore the club’s former glory, says co-owner Jim Ratcliffe.
The club has invested £50 million (RM285 million) into renovating the Carrington training ground, United’s base since 2000. The refurbishment, completed during the 2024/25 season, saw Ruben Amorim’s squad move into the new men’s first-team building this week after returning from their US pre-season tour.
British billionaire Ratcliffe, who took a minority stake in the 20-time English champions last year, had pledged US$300 million towards infrastructure improvements.
“After reviewing the facility last year, we quickly decided to invest heavily in creating a world-class performance environment for staff and players, in line with our ambition and vision for Manchester United,” Ratcliffe said in a statement on the club’s website.
“We’re thrilled with the results and confident the new facility will be key to building a winning culture at the club.”
The redesign was led by Foster + Partners, the same firm appointed last September to draw up plans for a proposed 100,000-capacity stadium.
United’s men’s team endured their worst season in 51 years last term, finishing 15th in the league. The club has not lifted the Premier League trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in 2013.
For the new season, Amorim has bolstered his squad with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, while Benjamin Sesko is set to arrive from RB Leipzig in a £74 million deal. — AFP
