TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie saw their China Open 2025 campaign cut short after a first-round exit in Changzhou today.
Ranked sixth in the world, the duo fell to Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu in a hard-fought match that ended 21-18, 22-24, 15-21 after over an hour. This marks their second defeat to the Indonesian pair and a missed opportunity to repeat their runner-up finish from the 2024 edition.
In the men’s doubles, professional pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani also suffered an early exit, ending their title defence hopes after losing to South Korea’s world No. 40 duo, Kang Min Hyuk and Kim Dong Ju. The Malaysians went down 15-21, 21-15, 21-17 in 56 minutes.
The loss adds to a disappointing streak for the world No. 3 pair, who also failed to defend their Japan Open title last Sunday after a defeat in the final.
However, there was good news for Malaysia as top men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik began their Super 1000 campaign with a solid win over Denmark’s Rasmus Kjær and Frederik Søgaard, taking the match 21-19, 21-15 in 41 minutes.
Chia-Soh will face either French duo Christo Popov and Toma Junior Popov or Canada’s Kevin Lee and Ty Alexander Lindeman in the second round. — Bernama
