TOKYO, Jan 22 — Japan has halted the restart of the world’s largest nuclear power plant just hours after it began, though the reactor remains “stable,” the operator said.
SEPANG, Aug 18 — A 31-year-old Chinese woman, Fang Fuyuan, has been sentenced by the Magistrate’s Court here to one month in jail and fined RM2,000 for assaulting an Immigration officer at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.
Magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani delivered the sentence after Fang pleaded guilty to the charge, which was read in Mandarin by a court interpreter.
The court ruled that the jail term will begin from the date of her arrest. If she fails to pay the fine, she will face an additional two months’ imprisonment.
Fang was charged under Section 332 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt to Immigration Officer Nurdiana Atirah Shapinaz Abdul Rahman, who was performing her official duties at the Departure Hall Immigration counter, KLIA Terminal 1, around 8pm last Wednesday. The offence carries a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
According to the case facts, another Immigration officer requested Fang and her three family members to step aside to allow a Bangladeshi passenger through after it was discovered there were no records of their entry into Malaysia.
However, Fang reacted aggressively by raising her voice, pulling the officer’s headscarf, and pushing the officer’s face and head against a pole in front of the counter.
The victim sustained a concussion, facial injuries, pain under the eyes, and swelling.
Deputy Public Prosecutor V. Luvithaa handled the prosecution, while lawyers Tai Ying Fung and Jason Anthony represented the accused. — Bernama
